Details Of The Text: The Bhaviṣya purāṇa consists of four parvans viz. Brāhma, Madhyama, Pratisarga and Uttara. Among these, the Uttara Parvan consists of two hundred an. eight chapters and is a distinct Purāṇa in itself called the Bhaviṣyottara purāṇa. This Parvan forms a supplement to the Bhaviṣya Purāṇa. It deals with different religious rites, especially the vratas. See Prof. Pushpendra Sastri, Introduction to Purāṇas, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi, 1995, p. 98. Inst., M. S. Uni. Baroda, pp. 8 ff. However many vratas found here are not available in the Ptd. Edn. of Bhaviṣyottarapurāṇa (Veṅkaṭeśvara edn.). Also though some Vratas show the source a. Bhaviṣyottara, the readings vary. Ptd. in sections Br. Mus. Ptd. Bks. 1906 ̶ 28. 788 ̶ 89. Chapter references for the vratas are given based on the Veṅkaṭeśvara Press edn. of this text.
